The Walsh University Board of Directors is pleased to announce the extension of Dr. Timothy J. Collins’ contract as President of Walsh University through June 30, 2030. This marks the second extension of Dr. Collins’ presidency, with his initial term previously extended to June 2027.
The announcement was made by Board Chair Carol Miller ’93 during the October board meeting, underscoring the Board’s confidence in Dr. Collins’ leadership and vision for the University.
"As an alumna of Walsh University, I have witnessed firsthand the transformative power of a Walsh education, and I am honored to support President Collins' continued leadership,” Miller said. “His steadfast commitment to our core values and vision for the future ensures that Walsh will remain a beacon of excellence, service, and faith. Alongside his bride, Drenda, whose dedication to our students and campus community is remarkable, President Collins continues to guide Walsh in thriving and inspiring the next generation of servant leaders."
Dr. Collins, who became Walsh University’s seventh president on August 5, 2019, has significantly shaped the institution since his formal installation on Founders’ Day, November 17, 2020. Over the past five years, he has implemented key initiatives, including the Walsh 4.0 strategic plan, focusing on innovation and growth through 2035.
As part of this vision, President Collins has declared the 2024-2025 academic year the Year of Community, as part of a five-year focus on Walsh’s five core values of community, excellence, integrity, service and faith. The Year of Community aims to deepen engagement among students, staff, alumni, and community partners, reinforcing Walsh’s commitment to advancing its mission and serving the common good.
Among the University’s notable achievements during Collins’ presidency is:
- Five-Year Renewal in the Newman Guide: In September 2024, Walsh University became the first institution and one of only 23 globally, to receive a five-year renewal in the prestigious Newman Guide to Choosing a Catholic University as part of Walsh’s commitment to serve as a beacon for faithful Catholic higher education institutions.
- Enrollment: Walsh University celebrated the largest incoming class in a decade in 2024 with 508 new traditional undergraduate students, including a historic 128 transfer students. The diverse student body represents 36 countries, underscoring the University’s international appeal and commitment to an inclusive educational environment.
- Innovative Partnerships and Community Impact: Walsh University, in partnership with Shimadzu Scientific Instruments, launched a multi-million-dollar Center for Scientific Excellence, fostering research and networking opportunities. The nationally recognized Skilled Technical Workforce program provides free training to upskill workers and support unemployed individuals, addressing Ohio’s labor shortage. The University’s latest partnership with Dai Nam University aims to grow enrollment for Walsh’s prestigious business programs.
- Expanded Academic Offerings: New programs such as the Bachelor of Science in Professional Aviation, Master of Dyslexia Therapy, and an online Master of Science in Exercise Physiology have been introduced, enhancing Walsh’s educational portfolio.
- Athletic Programs: The University added Sprint football, STUNT, and men’s and women’s rugby teams, broadening its athletic offerings. Additionally, a milestone multi-year partnership with Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital Sports Medicine to provide 10 full-time support professionals for Walsh’s more than 700 athletes, significantly enhances the athletic profile.
- Mission-Related Programs: The Blouin Scholars Program secured $1.25 million in funding to address poverty-related issues globally. Partnerships with international institutions have expanded opportunities for student exchanges and learning experiences.
- Advanced Technology: Walsh University is actively integrating artificial intelligence (AI) into its educational programs and operations. This includes forming a task force to guide ethical AI adoption, developing new AI courses for students, and providing training for faculty. The University is also equipping K-12 teachers with essential AI skills, ensuring responsible use of technology in education.
