Did you meet before, during, or after your time at Walsh?: During
Where did you meet?: Walsh College
How many children/pets?: We have 7 daughters, 3 grandsons

How They Met:

"Our freshman year at Walsh, I was afraid of Mark. He wore dark glasses and a goatee that I hated. I knew who he was because at the time; there were only two dorms, a guys and a girls. Summer after our freshman year he got new glasses, shaved, and no longer looked scary. I fell in love with him the fall of our sophomore year on a hay ride. I lost a cross necklace that I had since my Baptism and was frantically searching in the hay. He helped me dig through that wagon of hay, but to no avail. He won my heart that night though. Mark is very allergic to hay. By the time we got back to school, he was covered with hives and having a hard time breathing. It took me a little while to convince him he was in love with me too. By the end of that semester we were spending a lot of time together and we've been inseparable ever since."

The Proposal:

"In July of 1981 we were in Canton for the rehearsal dinner of our friends Barbara & Ron Daubert (both class of 1980). We went to Belden Village Mall and were looking at rings. I found the engagement ring I loved and he bought it. We got in his car in the parking lot and he asked me to marry him. Then he kept the ring!!! Said I couldn't have it until he asked my Grandmother's permission to marry me. This made me a little angry, but he was kind of old fashioned and I knew her blessing was important. Compared to the proposals of today, it was very hohum. It was definitely our style though. No fuss, no muss, just us!"

Where Are They Now?:

"Raising 7 daughters was a fun, hectic, wonderful time of our lives. For the most part, they are raised. Our 2 youngest daughters are both students at Walsh now. Linley, age 23 is working on her MBA and Riordan is a Blouin Global Scholar who is studying nursing. Bethany and Hillary both did their undergrad work at Walsh. Bethany is a nurse in the NICU at Akron Children's Hospital, Hillary is a counselor for Commquest in Alliance. Mallory is a special education teacher in Fl. Kaleigh also attended Walsh and works as a pharmacy Technician. Doreen has her Master's in Social Work and works in Cincinnati. We are very proud of the fact that our daughters have chosen career paths that gives service to others. Now that the girls are grown, Mark and I have time to enjoy life in the slower lane. We both work part time jobs, Mark at Walsh and me at Clearmount School. We enjoy reading, exercising, kayaking and spending LOTS of time with our grandsons.

Walsh will always hold a special place in our hearts, for many reasons, but the most important is, it's where God brought us together."
